Born in Philadelphia, Marijean Boueri has spent time and lived in a multitude of places around the world , from the Netherlands and Belgium to Lebanon, a small diverse country in the Middle East. Her international travels have given her an appreciation of multiculturism that she wants to share with others, particularly children.
It was while living
in Brussels from 1991 to 1995 that she developed a weekly children’s story hour. She and her family moved to Beirut in 1997. Boueri created and taught an Around the World Reading program for the Broumana School. She speaks English, French, and enough Arabic to manage daily life.
Boueri is keen to present the human face of Lebanon to her readers. Family life in Lebanon reminds her of the summers she spent at her grandfather’s home by the sea in New Hampshire. As she says ‘families are much the same everywhere— young and old alike love to relax, eat well and sneak sweets.’
